Free trams extended for sporting events during construction blitz

10/05/2018

In a bid to get you to winter’s major events on time, the free tram zone will be extended to the MCG from 1 June to 15 July.

The extension is in place during a winter construction blitz underway on the Cranbourne/Pakenham line until 17 June. The line will be closed to allow crucial works to remove the final four level crossings between Caulfield and Dandenong, open new stations at Murrumbeena and Carnegie and undertake infrastructure and signalling work around Caulfield Junction.

The free tram zone extension is designed to help you ride from the city to the MCG to attend Dreamtime at the ‘G, NRL State of Origin and other major events.

During this time, buses will replace trains between Caulfield and Westall.

Level crossing works at Skye Road, Seaford Road and the new Frankston Station will see buses replace trains between Carrum and Frankston and on the Stony Point line until 17 June.

Smaller shutdowns will take place on the Sunbury, Sandringham, Belgrave, Hurstbridge, Craigieburn, Seymour, Shepparton and Lilydale lines.

Road and public transport users are urged to rethink travel plans and allow more time to complete journeys.
