First boom gates gone at Burke Road

The Level Crossing Removal Project reached a major milestone this week as the first set of boom gates were removed at Burke Road in Glen Iris.

Major work started at Burke Road just 6 months ago and the project team has made extraordinary progress with the boom gates now gone forever.

The construction team, including John Holland and KBR, removed the gates late on Saturday 2 January 2016 as part of a program of extensive works at the site over January.

The buildings and platforms at Gardiner Station are currently being demolished and the team will soon start installing the new train and tram lines for when services resume.
