Creating landscaping legacies and new open space

As part of our level crossing removal projects, not only are we making local communities safer and Melbourne’s traffic less congested - we’re also committed to urban renewal during construction and creating new community open spaces.

As of October 2020, our projects have created nearly 14 MCGs worth of open space and our teams have planted well over 330,000 new trees, shrubs and plants.

We’ve also relocated palms in Frankston and Essendon, and harvested thousands of seeds to be raised and replanted in the open spaces we are creating.

We recently revisited some of the first suburbs where we removed level crossings and built new train stations to capture the changes in the landscape and learn more about how the communities are using their new open space, plus which planting has thrived.

Bayswater Station
