Boom gates given the flick from Coburg and Brunswick!

31 Jul 2020

Over three consecutive nights this week, the boom gates from Bell Street, Reynard Street, and Munro Street in Coburg and Moreland Road in Brunswick were removed.

With no trains running on the Upfield line and local road closures at night, crews were able to move in quickly to remove these relics of the past.

Major works are now underway to start to build a 2.5 kilometre elevated rail bridge and new stations at Moreland and Coburg.

The new elevated rail line will be ready for trains in November this year, with the two stations to open in December.

Removing the boom gates in Coburg is the first step in making Bell Street level crossing free, helping to reduce congestion and improve safety on one of Melbourne’s busiest arterial roads. The boom gates at Bell Street in Preston will be gone in 2022.

Buses are now replacing trains on sections of the Upfield line. To plan your journey, visit the PTV website.
