Abbotts Road project drops water use with rainwater tanks

07 Aug 2018

The Abbotts Road Level Crossing Removal Project in Dandenong South has saved almost 220,000 litres of water in one year – around 2700 bathtubs – by installing two low-cost 5000 litre rainwater tanks.

The tanks harvest about 20,000 litres of water per month – enough to meet toilet and urinal water requirements for 60 staff. The tanks are fed from a 400m2 catchment made upmostly of temporary site office roofs.

When the temporary site facilities are dismantled, the tanks will be relocated to the next temporary site, extending their overall useful life.
