17 level crossings to be removed in 2015-16 budget
05 May 2015
The first 17 crossings to be removed under the Level Crossing Removal Project have been identified, with the Government allocating $2.4 billion in the 2015-16 budget for the removal of at least 20 level crossings by 2018.
Nine level crossings will be removed between Dandenong and Caulfield on the Cranbourne-Pakenham line as part of a plan to transform the line with high-capacity trains, new stations and better signalling. On top of these nine sites, level crossings will also be removed at:
- Burke Road in Glen Iris
- McKinnon Road in McKinnon, Centre Road in Bentleigh and North Road in Ormond
- Main Road and Furlong Road in St Albans
- Heatherdale Road in Mitcham and Blackburn Road in Blackburn
The sites at McKinnon Road, Centre Road, Furlong Road and Heatherdale Road are being combined with existing packages to drive down costs, reduce disruption to rail and road users by combining line closures, and accelerate the delivery of the Level Crossing Removal Project.
