Mernda station will be a fully integrated transport hub servicing the 5,000 passengers who are forecast to board trains each day.
A premium station, Mernda will integrate with the proposed Mernda Town Centre, providing easy access to shopping, entertainment, cafés, restaurants, a library, health and fitness facilities, bus services and the station's two car park areas.
The Mernda station will offer bike storage and parking for more than 1,000 vehicles while providing sweeping views across the surrounding area.
Arriving at the station
The station precinct design allows for easy access to the station by car, bike, bus, taxi and on foot.
The underside of the station platform has been utilised to create a large sheltered public space that also marks the entry to the station.
There will be two large lifts providing access even during maintenance. Lifts will run off the mains power supply with a dedicated backup supply, in the event of a power failure.
A modern and accessible transport hub is being created with a bus interchange to the east of the main station area. There will also be kiss and- ride drop-off and spaces for taxis conveniently located close to waiting areas and the main concourse for easy movement around the station.
The station parking includes:
- 1,000 park-and-ride spaces
- 20 accessible spaces.
The shared walking and cycling path will lead directly to the station's bike storage area.
There will be lighting and CCTV in the car park and surrounds and Protective Services Officers will patrol the area each night after 6pm.
As a premium station, Mernda will be staffed from first train to last.
