Final works with crossings gone and roads reopened
In another project milestone, North, Mckinnon and Centre roads, which are now all level crossing free, will be fully reinstated by mid to late October. At that time, all lanes will be open to traffic and on street parking will be returned.
We have also commenced reinstating local roads, with this work scheduled to be completed by the middle of November, depending on the weather.
Bringing forward construction of the road bridge decks meant we were able to keep the three main roads open for 94 per cent of the time.
Thank you for your patience
As always, we would like to thank local traders, residents and the broader community for your patience while we removed these three level crossings and built new stations at Ormond, McKinnon and Bentleigh. We hope you are enjoying your new stations and improved traffic flow.
Commuters and the local community welcomed the return of Ormond and Bentleigh stations on Monday 29 August. McKinnon Station opened earlier on Monday 1 August.
Returning the palm trees
Over a year ago, around 50 palm trees were carefully removed from Nicholson Street, Burgess Street and Katandra Road and transported to a nursery in Keysborough, while we undertook major works.
In early September, we started the job of replanting these trees and works will continue until the end of October. Check out our video online.
Winding down at EE Gunn Reserve
Works are continuing to dismantle our site compound at EE Gunn Reserve and we will hand back the reserve to Glen Eira City Council by the end of October. Council will then undertake a reinstatement program.
A big thank you to the local sporting clubs who relocated over the construction period.
Car parks reopening soon
Ormond Station, including the car park off Newham Grove, will be fully completed by the end of October.
McKinnon Station car park, located off Station Avenue, will be open by mid-October, with the station fully completed by the end of October.
Bentleigh Station, including the station car park located off Nicholson Street, will be fully completed by early November. The Council car parks on Bendigo Avenue and Burgess Street are due to reopen by mid-October.
Changes to the way you travel
Buses will replace trains on the Frankston line between Caulfield and Mordialloc stations from approximately 8:30pm on Friday 4 November to the last service on Sunday 6 November. During this time, the project team will undertake rectification works including making adjustments to the overhead wiring and testing the train signals. The market's back
The Bentleigh Sunday Market received a warm welcome back from the community on Sunday 4 September. The market had close to a full house and the donations at the gate were equal to what they were, prior to our works commencing. Remember, the market is open every Sunday from 7:00 am to 12 noon and has over 120 stalls including plants, clothing, cosmetics, jewellery, books, videos, tools, antiques, crafts, pre-loved goods and more! The Bentleigh Sunday Market is a non-profit project run by the Bentleigh Moorabbin Central Rotary Club with proceeds supporting local community and Rotary projects.
