Frankston line – Level Crossing Removal Projects
The Victorian Government is removing 13 dangerous level crossings and building a new train storage facility, to improve safety, reduce congestion and run more trains, more often.
Across the Frankston line, work to remove level crossings is well underway. Three are already gone and Skye/Overton Road in Frankston is under construction, to be completed in 2018.
In Carrum, construction of the new Station Street road bridge across Patterson River will begin early next year, with the bridge to open in late 2018.
Construction to remove the Seaford Road, Seaford level crossing will begin in early 2018. The level crossing will be removed by 2018 and the project will be completed in 2019.
In Cheltenham, two level crossings will go at Park Road and Charman Road, with construction to start in late 2018.
Construction will also start late next year to remove the level crossing at Balcombe Road, Mentone.
In Edithvale and Bonbeach, work is also well underway. The Minister for Planning has confirmed that both level crossing removals require an Environment Effects Statement (EES).
The EES is currently being prepared for public exhibition in early 2018. Construction is on track to begin at both sites in 2019.
A new, purpose-built train storage facility close to Kananook Station in Seaford will allow us to relocate the six train storage tracks currently at Carrum. It will also provide space for at least three times more storage in the future. Works will start in 2019.
