The level crossing at Lower Plenty Road in Rosanna is one of Melbourne's worst with the boom gates down for 43 minutes in the two hour morning peak, causing congestion and putting lives at risk.
The design options for removing it have now been released with the following options are being considered :
- A rail bridge over Lower Plenty Road supported by embankments
- A rail bridge over Lower Plenty Road supported by columns
- A rail trench below Lower Plenty Road.
Both a road bridge or road underpass were also investigated, but have now been ruled out as they would involve significant compulsory land acquisition and impact on Rosanna Village. All options include a new Rosanna Station.
We recently held drop in sessions which gave community members the opportunity to view the designs, speak to the project team and provide their feedback. More than 500 community members attended these sessions over two days.
The project also has an online community hub
