The Victorian Government has announced the Mountain Highway and Scoresby Road level crossings will be next to be removed. The contract will be awarded shortly.
The project will include lowering the rail line under the road at both locations, rebuilding Bayswater Station with access to the platforms via steps, ramps and lifts, improved transport connectivity with a new bus interchange and upgrades to cycle and pedestrian infrastructure.
Early construction works will begin this year, with major works starting in early 2016, to be completed within 12-18 months. A major rail shut down is planned for late 2016, in order to deliver much of the works.
Removing these level crossings will reduce road congestion, allow more trains to run on the Belgrave line and improve safety for road users and pedestrians.
