McDonalds and Plenty roads traffic changes

Mernda Rail construction is underway on Plenty and McDonalds roads in South Morang. Speed limits will be reduced. Yellow line markings will direct motorists to new lanes.

McDonalds Road (near South Morang Station)

Traffic changes from 14 June until October 2017

  • North-bound traffic will be shifted onto temporary lanes.
  • Shorter left turn lane into McDonalds Road west from McDonalds Road south.
  • Pedestrian path closed along McDonalds Road west between McDonalds Road and Ferres Boulevard intersection and the Westfield worksite. Detours are in place.

Plenty Road (near Gordons Road)

Traffic changes from June until October 2017:

  • South-bound traffic will be shifted onto the temporary lanes to enable construction of the eastern side of the Plenty Road rail underpass.
  • South bound motorists cannot turn left into Gordons Road east. A detour via a U-turn at Stagecoach Boulevard will be in place.
  • North-bound traffic will be shifted west to allow for additional south-bound lanes.

Oakleigh to Huntingdale shared use path

The Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal Project will remove level crossings, construct elevated tracks and rebuild stations. It will provide new and improved rail infrastructure which includes power and signalling upgrades from Southern Cross Station to Pakenham and Cranbourne.

These works will involve the closure of the shared use path from the eastern end of Oakleigh Station Portman Street car park to Huntingdale Station from Tuesday 13 June until Tuesday 27 June 2017.

Murrumbeena Station closure

From 17 June 2017

Murrumbeena Station will close from 1:00am Saturday 17 June for up to 11 weeks.

Train replacement buses will operate express between Caulfield and Murrumbeena stations. A shuttle service will also operate between Carnegie and Hughesdale stations, stopping at Murrumbeena.

Murrumbeena Station will close temporarily for up to 11 weeks for installation of the elevated railway through the station and across Murrumbeena Road.

Train replacement bus services will operate during the station closure. Customers for Murrumbeena Station are encouraged to change at Caulfield Station to board the express train replacement bus to Murrumbeena Station or at Carnegie or Hughesdale stations to catch the shuttle service to Murrumbeena Station.

Customers should allow up to 15 minutes' extra travel time.

Exit Murrumbeena Station onto Neerim Road and turn left. Cross Neerim Road at pedestrian crossing and turn right. Proceed to Metro designated bus stop, located next to laneway.

Shuttle Stop (South)

Neerim Road

Exit Murrumbeena Station onto Neerim Road and turn left. Walk to Murrumbeena Road and turn left.  Cross train tracks when safe, proceed to Railway Parade and turn left. Proceed to shuttle service stop, located near the Rail Café kiosk.

Exit Murrumbeena Station onto Neerim Road and turn left. Proceed to bus stop, located past the pedestrian crossing.

Shuttle Stop (South)

Exit Murrumbeena Station onto Neerim Road and turn right. Walk to Murrumbeena Road and turn left.  Cross road when traffic signals permit, turn left again back onto Railway Parade Proceed to shuttle service stop, located at 6 Railway Parade (outside police station).

Exit Hughesdale Station down pedestrian ramp.  Turn left at train tracks on Poath Road.  Proceed to Metro designated bus stop.

Blackburn Station partial car park closure

Short term car park closure of the Western car park (off Railway Road)

As part of the Blackburn Level Crossing Removal Project up to 31 car spaces in the western car park off Railway Road car park will close from 7:00pm Monday 26 June until 5:00am Thursday 29 June.

Alternative parking is available at 160 Whitehorse Road, Blackburn (enter via Railway Rd).

Hawdon Street traffic changes

From June 2017 to December 2017

To maintain the safety of our workers and the public during the Hurstbridge Rail Line Upgrade Project, there will be extended path and lane closures on Hawdon Street while piling and tunneling works are completed.

Temporary traffic changes include:

  • Extended temporary closure of the north-bound lane of Hawdon Street, between Cartmell Street and Darebin Street.
  • Extended temporary closure of the pedestrian path on the west side of Hawdon Street near the Darebin Street and Hawdon Street roundabout.
  • We will sometimes need to close Hawdon Street in both directions, and the approach from the Darebin Street and Hawdon Street roundabout. In these instances clear traffic detour signage will be in place.
  • Speed limits will be reduced to 40km/h near the work areas.

Ellesmere Parade traffic changes

3 July to late 2018

To provide space for alternative car parks during the works to remove the Lower Plenty Road level crossing in Rosanna, Ellesmere Parade will become one way (southbound) between Lower Plenty Road and Davies Street.

From 3 July until late 2018, more than 100 all-day alternative car parks will be available on Ellesmere Parade following the closure of the eastern car park at Rosanna Station.

Rosanna Station car park closure

3 Jul 2017 to late 2018

To allow for construction works as part of the Lower Plenty Road Level Crossing Removal Project, the car park on the east side of Rosanna Station (adjacent to Turnham Avenue) will be closed from 3 July 2017 until late 2018.

All-day alternative parking will be available on Ellesmere Parade, Station Road and Beetham Parade.

From mid-September, the car park on the west side of Rosanna Station (adjacent to Beetham Parade) will also close, along with the pedestrian crossing over the railway line. Pedestrians will be detoured via Lower Plenty Road.
