Seaford Road disruptions

Service investigation works will take place from Wednesday 12 April until the end of May 2017, between 9:00am and 4:00pm.

These works will occur within the rail corridor and on nearby roads, including:

  • Seaford Road
  • Railway Parade
  • Fortescue Avenue
  • Elsie Avenue.

Traffic management will be in place to keep road and footpath users safe. Detours will be in place to ensure people can get to where they need to go safely, however please allow extra travel time.

  • There will be intermittent noise during these works generated by the suction trucks.
  • There will be parking restrictions at some locations, such as Seaford train station, and lane and footpath closures during the works.

Cheltenham Site Investigation and Survey Work

1 May 2017 to 30 May 2017

Service investigation works will start from Monday 1 May 2017 and are expected to continue for a number of weeks (weather permitting). All works will be carried out during the day.

These works will occur within the rail corridor and on nearby roads, including:

  • Barrett Street
  • Charman Road
  • Park Road
  • Barker Street
  • Hoffman Street

Walking, cycling and driving impacts
Works to locate underground services will be done in stages to minimise the impact on the local community with traffic management in place to keep road and footpath users safe.

Traffic lane closures may be required at some stages, however road and pedestrian access to residential properties and local businesses will be maintained at all times.

Hurstbridge line

28 May 2017 to 31 May 2017

While construction works take place as part of the Hurstbridge Rail Line Upgrade Project, buses will replace trains between Heidelberg and Hurstbridge stations from 8:15pm to the last service each night from Sunday 28 May to Wednesday 31 May.

Melton Highway pedestrian crossing closure

From 15 May 2017, the south side of Melton Highway between Overton Lea Boulevard and McCubbin Drive will become part of our construction zone.

This also means the footpaths along the south of Melton Highway between Sydenham Road and Entrance 6 of Watergardens Town Centre (nearest Spotlight) will be closed for construction.

Pedestrians will be able to cross the railway tracks safely on the north side of Melton Highway or at Watergardens Station. Pedestrian routes are marked in our interactive map.

The crossing is in the middle of the major construction zone. There will be cranes and heavy machinery in the area so it is not safe for pedestrians.

There is extensive signage to direct pedestrians to safe detour routes.

McDonalds and Plenty roads traffic changes

Mernda Rail construction is underway on Plenty and McDonalds roads in South Morang. Speed limits will be reduced. Yellow line markings will direct motorists to new lanes.

McDonalds Road (near South Morang Station)

  • Reduced speed limit of 40km per hour from 7:00am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday and 7:00am to 1:00pm, Saturday.
  • Closure of on-road bicycle lane.
  • Short term off peak lane closures.

Plenty Road (near Gordons Road)

  • Closure of u-turns on Plenty Road near Gordons Road. Alternate u-turn for drivers at The Lakes Boulevard and Stagecoach Boulevard approximately 250 metres north and south of Gordons Road.
  • Closure of on-road bicycle lane.
  • Closure of the bus stops on Plenty Road near Gordons Road.
  • Short term off peak lane closures.

Wingrove Street changes

24 May 2017 to mid-2018

While construction works take place as part of the Grange Road Level Crossing Removal Project, there will be a number of traffic and transport changes on Wingrove Street including:

  • temporarily changing the flow of traffic to be one way
  • temporarily removing the 508 bus stop
  • and an overnight road closure.

The pedestrian crossing opposite Naroon Road, Alphington will be permanently removed.

Wingrove Street will become one way (westbound) between Kelvin Road and Grange Road from Thursday 25 May until mid-2018.

The 508 bus stop on Wingrove Street, near Mercil Road will be removed during this time. View our interactive map for further details.

To facilitate this change, an overnight closure of Wingrove Street between Kelvin Road and Grange Road is required on Wednesday 24 May. Traffic management will assist in maintaining access to private properties.

Wingrove Street will become a one way eastbound between Perry Street and Grange Road in late July until mid-2018. View our interactive map for further details.

Murrumbeena Station closure

From 17 June 2017

Murrumbeena Station will close from 1:00am Saturday 17 June for up to 11 weeks.

Train replacement buses will operate express between Caulfield and Murrumbeena stations. A shuttle service will also operate between Carnegie and Hughesdale stations, stopping at Murrumbeena.

Murrumbeena Station will close temporarily for up to 11 weeks for installation of the elevated railway through the station and across Murrumbeena Road.

Train replacement bus services will operate during the station closure. Customers for Murrumbeena Station are encouraged to change at Caulfield Station to board the express train replacement bus to Murrumbeena Station or at Carnegie or Hughesdale stations to catch the shuttle service to Murrumbeena Station.

Customers should allow up to 15 minutes' extra travel time.

Hawdon Street and Darebin Street traffic changes

May 28 2017 to 1 June 2017

While construction takes place on the Hurstbridge Rail Line Upgrade there will be traffic management and temporary lane closures in place near the Darebin Street and Hawdon Street roundabout from 1:00am to 4:00am Monday 28 May to Thursday 1 June.

For your safety, please observe any signage and instructions in place during these works.

Ellesmere Parade closure

24 June 2017 to 25 June 2017

Ellesmere Parade will temporarily close from 7:00am to 7:00pm on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 June, while we relocate a gas main as part of the Lower Plenty Road Level Crossing Removal Project.

Hawdon Street traffic changes

From June 2017 to December 2017

To maintain the safety of our workers and the public during the Hurstbridge Rail Line Upgrade Project, there will be extended path and lane closures on Hawdon Street while piling and tunneling works are completed.

Temporary traffic changes include:

  • Extended temporary closure of the north-bound lane of Hawdon Street, between Cartmell Street and Darebin Street.
  • Extended temporary closure of the pedestrian path on the west side of Hawdon Street near the Darebin Street and Hawdon Street roundabout.
  • We will sometimes need to close Hawdon Street in both directions, and the approach from the Darebin Street and Hawdon Street roundabout. In these instances clear traffic detour signage will be in place.
  • Speed limits will be reduced to 40km/h near the work areas.

Murrumbeena and Hughesdale road disruptions

While construction works take place as part of the Poath Road Level Crossing Removal Project, Railway Parade will be closed and Poath Road will be partially closed between 6:00am and 5:00pm on Sunday 28 May 2017.

There will be a closure of Railway Parade from 6:00am to 5:00pm on Sunday 28 May. Additionally, the northbound lane of Poath Road, between William Street and Neerim Road in Murrumbeena, will be closed during the same period. Please note:

  • Access to Poath Road will be from Rosella Street
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times
  • Access for residents and businesses will be maintained
