The Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal Project is removing nine level crossings and rebuilding five stations. The Cranbourne-Pakenham train line is Melbourne's busiest and is crossed by some of our most congested roads.

The boom gates at Noble Park's Chandler Road level crossing are down for up to 67 minutes during the weekday peak between 7:00am and 9:00am, impacting travel times for thousands of motorists and for all road users.

The Chandler Road level crossing removal is part of the Caulfield to Dandenong project, which involves removing nine level crossings and rebuilding five new stations at Carnegie, Murrumbeena, Hughesdale, Clayton and Noble Park.

A project of the size and complexity of the Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal Project involves a considerable amount of design work to arrive at the finished product. The project is split into 160 individual design packages. We prioritise these packages and progressively pass them onto the construction team when complete. Staging the design in this way is typical of a major infrastructure project and allows us to start and finish sooner. Check out our Project Design fact sheet for more information.

Construction impacts

Station precinct changes

Work has started to remove the Chandler Road level crossing and rebuild the Noble Park Station. As part of these works, changes to the station precinct came into effect from mid-October 2016:

  • Changes to the way you enter and exit Platform 2.
  • Temporary waiting room with CCTV and customer help point and safety zone on the platform*
  • Relocation of myki machines and myki readers to the temporary station entrance.
  • Pedestrian access changes at the underpass which will remain Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant.
  • Width of Platform will be reduced but will remain Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant.

* Protective Services Officers will continue to patrol the station daily from 6:00pm until the last service.

While accessibility will be maintained, customers with special needs are encouraged to call the Community Information Line on 1800 762 667 to discuss specific requirements.

Car park closures

Noble Park Station

Noble Park Station Mons Parade car park is now closed until mid-2018 so we can start works to remove the level crossing, construct elevated tracks and rebuild the station.

Noble Park Station, Douglas Street car park is partially closed (up to 12 car spaces) until mid-2018.

To ensure there is no loss of parking for rail customers during construction, the car park at Sandown Park has been extended to provide approximately 166 additional car spaces.

During construction, station car park users are encouraged to plan their travel and consider alternative transport to nearby stations and offset car park locations.

Road changes

Chandler Road will be closed at the level crossing from 10:00pm Friday 20 October to 6:00am Saturday 21 October 2017. Detour via Heatherton Road, Corrigan Road and Princes Highway.

Between Tuesday 17 October and Saturday 21 October, a series of intermittent nightly lane closures is planned at Chandler Road, Noble Park from 7:00pm to 6:00am is planned at the Chandler Road level crossing, Noble Park.

During this period, traffic controls will be in place on Hanna Street, Noble Park, between Llewellyn Court and Chandler Road, daily from 9:30am to 3:30pm to construct the elevated rail. Two-way traffic will be maintained.

For your safety, please observe any signage and instructions put in place during these works.
