The Victorian Government is developing a rail industry skills program to prepare Australians to deliver an unprecedented amount of work on the Melbourne rail network over the next ten years and beyond.
This program will result in a new generation of rail talent for Victoria. It will contribute to the Victorian economy and Victorian families, providing opportunities to re-skill those who have relevant experience from industries in decline, as well as training people from disadvantaged communities.
The key elements of Training for the Future include:
- Victorian industry capability
- Skills development
- Diversity and social inclusion opportunities
This initiative is led by the Level Crossing Removal Authority (LXRA), with input from Melbourne Metro Rail Authority (MMRA), Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM), Public Transport Victoria (PTV), V/Line and industry.
There is currently an unprecedented pipeline of work on major rail projects for Melbourne, including the removal of 50 level crossings, extension of rail to Mernda, and the Melbourne Metro Rail Project.
